The Benefits of Co-Washing for Exercise Divas In preparation for our next video for the Exercise Course (How to Co-Wash), I wanted to share a few of the many benefits of Co-washing for women that work out regularly.Co-washing is simply washing the hair with conditioner as you would with shampoo. For those that workout regularly, co-washing can be a godsend! Let's talk about a few reasons why you may want to add this awesome technique to your arsenal! It Keeps the Scalp Clean! For women that workout regularly, removing sweat from the hair is incredibly important. If not washed away, the salt from our perspiration will quickly dry out textured hair and irritate our scalps. By only using conditioner, we can remove the salt, dirt and dust from the hair without stripping the hair of its natural oils. It's Quick! With Co-Washing, you can be in and out of the shower! Unlike washing and conditioning, you only need to hop in the shower, rinse thoroughly, lather up with the conditioner and rinse. It's ONE easy step! This is great for women who have to rush to work or school after a workout! It's Cheap! The best products to co-wash with are cheap conditioners. My personal favorite is VO5 Strawberries and Cream conditioner. The product is easily found at most grocery stores (often on sale for less than $1). This is great for workout divas because it allows them to co-wash regularly without worrying constantly running out of expensive, hard-to-find products. It Keeps the Hair Healthy! Since you eliminate the stripping shampoo step, the hair retains a lot more moisture and shine with co-washing. It will be easier to detangle, style and will dry a lot sleeker and smoother! In addition, by constantly exposing the hair to water, you allow the force of water and conditioner to distribute the scalp's natural oils to the ends of the hair. So, by working out regularly, you are increasing the amount of water and conditioning that you expose to the hair. You get a healthier body AND a healthier head of hair! It Makes the Hair Smell Great! One of the greatest benefits of co-washing daily is that your hair will smell great every day! You hair and scalp will constantly feel clean, fresh and fragrant! It Helps Define Curls and Waves! Since we are no longer exposing the hair to stripping detergents in the shampoo, you will start to notice that, if natural (or transitioning), your natural curls and waves will start to appear more defined. When the hair is well lubricated and conditioned, the curls will naturally appear healthier, supple and moist. They will not frizz and tangle as much and will look fresh and vibrant all day long!
